On the cover of San Giorgio Aste’s catalog for next sale is an attractive 17th C. northern European baskethilt rapier. Related swords in the sale include a German two handed processional sword, a clam shell rapier and a north Italian knightly sword circa 1200.
Also offered in this sale are several pairs of good early flintlock pistols, among them an Austrian horseman’s pair C 1720, a pair of scarce French gendarmerie pistols circa 17980, a pair of officers pistols from the Kingdom of Sardinia circa 1800, and a pair of French naval blunderbuss pistols. A French pistol by LaMarre circa 1890 carries the highest estimate at 23,000-25000 euros.
A selection or rare powder horns and flask offered include carved bone examples dating to the 17th C and an Italian example C. 1600. Also offered in this sale is a good section of Japanese Kabuto helmets, several fine Swiss target rifles and a fine inlaid Wheelock Tschinke
