EDGED WEAPONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, THE COBBS, APRIL 3rd
Re Cobbs sale of worldwide edged weapons is being held on April 3rd. The sale includes a wide range of swords daggers and related lots with a wide range of estimates. Among the European and American swords is are several New England rev war period horseman’s sabers. Also offered are an early figure of 8 cutlass and an early north European broadsword.
Indian weapons in the sale include a scarce pata gauntlet sword, a dagger with fakir crutch hilt, several katar among them a “hooded” example, several indo-Persian shamshirs including the wootz tulwar hilted example shown. South east Asian swords include examples of Kampilan, Panabas, Passangans and Barong.. ANTHONY CRIBB, ANTIQUE ARMS AND MILITARIA APRIL 10th
The Ferguson rifle is one of the earliest riles used in service by the British army. This arms saw us e in the revolutionary was in Saratoga in 1777 and later in the siege of Charleston. Examples are rare and a prize edition to any collection of British martial arms. There will be great interest in the example offered by Anthony Cribb Auctioneers on April 19th. Also offered in the sale is another rare breech loading Lorenzo rifle.
