CZERNYS: ANTIQUE ARMS, ARMOUR, MILITARIA AND HISTORICAL MEMORABILIA: JUNE 24-25TH

Czerny’s sale of June 24th includes a superb selection of historic arms, armor, and militaria. Among the edged weapon highlights is a French basket-hilt early 18th C. saber with gilt decoration. It is from the estate of Compte Claude Alexandre de Bonneval a French soldier whose colorful trajectory included his role as an officer and Pasha for the Ottoman Empire. Other museum quality swords include a fabulous Japanese Kuirkara Ken, an e exceptional gold decorated Kindjal and two superb Russian presentation sabers C. 1800.
Firearms in the sale include a presentation pair of Colt 1861 Nacy revolvers, an important Italian petronel with 16th C elements, an engraved Winchester model 1872 musket, a pair of French over and under flintlock pistols by Boiron C. 1700 and a rare pair of tanegashima Matchlock Japanese pistols signed Matsumoto Uhyoe Saku.
This catalogue has a particularly strong selection of fine armour lots and carrying the highest estimate is an Eastern European half-armour with an effigy of the virgin Mary. Also offered is a fascinating ottoman style helmet made in Nuremberg C. 1560, a superb 16th c French Shield embossed with Lapiths and Centaurs in battle, a theme represented Michelangelo’s works, an Augsburg close helm attributed to Anton Peffenhauser and a good south -German black and white close helmet.
A non-armour lot of historical importance in the sale is a chair from the Island of Elba, used during Napoleons detention, Clock on the image for a link to the sale.
