A wartime Thompson and a scarce Palmetto Armory pistol lead the highlights at Alderfer Auction’s Firearms, Swords and Bayonets sale on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, beginning at 10am Eastern. The Hatfield, Pennsylvania auction brings together antique military arms, collectible handguns, sporting firearms and edged weapons.
A principal attraction is Lot 2000, a Class III Savage Arms/Auto-Ordnance Thompson Model 1928 in .45 ACP, dated by the catalogue to late 1941–early 1942. Listed on its Form 4 as Savage/Auto-Ordnance, the gun bears an AO serial prefix identifying Auto-Ordnance manufacture. Its altered military designation and overstamped “AC” marking reflect its subsequent commercial or law-enforcement configuration. Equipped with a Lyman rear sight, it is accompanied by two stick magazines and Roger Cox’s reference book, The Thompson SMG.
Earlier American arms include Lot 1076, a William Glaze/Palmetto Armory Model 1842 percussion pistol. Dated 1852, this .54-calibre example retains the distinctive Palmetto tree markings, brass furniture and captive swivel ramrod. Alderfer notes that approximately 2,000 pistols of this pattern were produced in 1852–53, with many subsequently seeing Confederate service.
Collectors of percussion revolvers should also examine Lot 1013, a Savage Navy revolver with its characteristic ring-cocking mechanism, and Lot 1014, a Colt Model 1860 Army manufactured in 1863. A scarce Remington Model 1870 Navy rolling-block pistol, Lot 1036, adds further interest, bearing naval and inspection markings.
British military collecting is represented by a Brown Bess flintlock musket and an East India Company sea-service pistol, while a Richardson & Overman Gallager carbine broadens the American military selection.
Sporting and modern firearms include Browning Citori shotguns, a Remington 11-48 in 28 gauge and collectible Smith & Wesson revolvers. Viewing takes place at Alderfer’s Hatfield premises on Monday, October 26, from 9am to 4pm. The full illustrated catalogue and online bidding are available by clicking on the image.
